2008: Metallic Cat

Metallic CatCountdown to the 50th Futurity

Metallic Cat’s win with Beau Galyean in the 2008 NCHA Futurity gave High Brow Cat his fifth Futurity title, breaking his tie with Doc Bar in the record books. Metallic Cat marked 222 for a four-point winning margin.

“This horse is so pretty and has so much eye appeal,” Galyean said. “He was extremely trainable and, more than anything, a really smart horse.”

Bred by The Roan Rangers, Metallic Cat is out of Chers Shadow, a great granddaughter of 1975 NCHA Futurity champion Lenaette.

Metallic Cat won three more major events, earned over $574,000 and was named Horse of the Year for owner Alvin Fults of Amarillo, Texas.

We’ll look at the past NCHA Futurity champions each day through December 9. Read the full story in Cutting Horse Gold: 50 Years of the NCHA Futurity by Sally Harrison.
