Tony Piggott and Rockin W tied Royal Fletch’s record with a 229-point win in the 2009 NCHA Futurity.
Bred, owned and named for Alice Walton’s Rocking W Ranch, Rockin W is by 1997 NCHA Futurity finalist Dual Rey out of Horse of the Year Boon San Kitty, an earner of $498,000.
“He’s got a cool style,” said Piggott, who was catch-riding for Gary Gonsalves. “He traps those cows and snakes around with his neck. He’s a neat horse.”
Piggott, a former Limited Open reserve champion at the Futurity, was making his first appearance in the Open finals.
Rockin W went on to win more than $309,000. He’s standing at the historic 6666 Ranch.
