The National Cutting Horse Association has announced that one of the organization’s premier events, the NCHA Western National Championships, will be held in Reno, Nevada in 2012. Dates for the show are April 28 – May 8, 2012.
The Western National Championships feature each of the 12 NCHA-approved weekend show classes, and offers a total of $200,000 in added money. The Western Championships typically bring approximately 1,000 entries, with participants coming from the entire Western and Central United States and Canada. The show was previously conducted in Ogden, Utah and is moving for the first time since its inception in 1995.
“We are very excited that the Western Nationals will be in Reno next year,” said NCHA President Keith Deaville. “Numerous NCHA-approved shows have been held in Reno before. The city’s location, quality and quantity of hotels and restaurants, reputation for great hospitality, first-class cutting facilities and the desire to ‘roll out the red carpet’ for cutters will help to make this a great show for our members.”
Deaville continued, “Not only will it offer great cutting for great prize money and awards, we are committed to making it a really fun and social event for cutting families who come from all over the country.”
The NCHA Western National Championships will be held at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center. The Center features multiple covered arenas, 644 permanent stalls, safe and efficient cattle handling facilities, covered and outdoor loping arenas, plentiful RV hookups, food service (including the “Doc Bar Lounge”) and ample space on the concourse of the main arena for commercial vendors.
“The NCHA Western National Championships is a great event for Reno Tahoe,” said RSCVA Interim President/CEO Joe Kelley. “It also shows that equestrian events continue to find great service and a great value at the Livestock Events Center. We look forward to making the 18th National Championships the best ever.”
Entry forms for the NCHA Western National Championships will be available from the NCHA office and on the NCHA web site in mid-January. To allow as many NCHA members as possible to compete in the NCHA Western (and Eastern) National Championships in 2012, the NCHA Executive Committee has approved special entry standards for the two shows next year. Any NCHA member will be allowed to enter the shows in 2012, provided they paid at least one entry fee and rode to the herd during the 2011 point year in an NCHA-approved show for each class entered.
