Jackie Funk rode A Cat Named Sue to victory in the Senior Youth finals at the 6666 Ranch NCHA Eastern National Championships Sunday. Funk marked 220 on A Cat Named Sue to win by one point over top qualifier Chisholm Clark.
Earlier in the day, A Cat Named Sue, owned by Chloe Dedden, carried Matthew Dedden to his win in the Junior Youth finals. It’s the first time a horse has won both of those events in one day at the National Championships.
Funk, from Elk City, Oklahoma, was a finalist in multiple limited age events a couple years ago with Boons Chita Blue. Funk, 17, has cutting since she was seven years old.
Reserve champion Chisholm Clark of Fountain Inn, South Carolina, posted the high score of 221 in the go-round on Swinging Til Five and came back with a 219 in the finals.
The show continues in Jackson, Mississippi through March 16.
