$5,000 Novice title to Jae Bar One Time

Jae-Bar-One-Time_Roper-CurtissRoper Curtiss marked 221 on Christine King’s Jae Bar One Time for a two-point win over Aristocrat Boon Wednesday in the $5,000 Novice finals at the 6666 Ranch NCHA Western National Championships in Reno, Nevada.

The $4,574 paycheck takes Jae Bar One Time over $197,000 in career earnings. The 7-year-old One Time Pepto gelding was bred by Crystal Creek Ranch out of Jae Bars Fancy Cat, a daughter of $584,000 producer Jae Bar Maisie.

Jae Bar One Time placed third in the 2011 NCHA Futurity and won the 2012 Abilene Spectacular with Michael Cooper.

He qualified for the 27-horse finals on the bubble with a 214.5, and then drew midway through the second set of the finals. Mike Wood led the go-round with a 221 on Gerald Dorros’ WR This Cats Smart mare Cyndi Cat.

Roper Curtiss, 34, has been a finalist three times at past NCHA Western National Championships.

Reserve champion Aristocrat Boon is a 6-year-old mare by Mr Boonsmal To You out of Ristos Sweet Play, owned by Kimberly Gustafson and ridden by Tim Johnson.
