Steve Schlesinger and Catlena Rey marked 223 to win the Open finals for Ted and Lauren Cooper of Shingle Springs, California Wednesday at the 6666 Ranch NCHA Western National Championships in Reno, Nevada.

Dustin Gonnet and This Cats Got Style, champions of the $15,000 Novice earlier in the show, took the reserve title in the Open with a 219.

Catlena Rey is an 8-year-old High Brow Cat gelding bred by John Harrah out of Miss Reylena, a Smart Little Lena mare that earned $71,000.

Catlena Rey was fifth in the 2010 Pacific Coast Futurity and was reserve champion of both the Open and Non-Pro El Rancho Futurity that year. His win at Reno takes his career earnings over $99,000.

Schlesinger, 36, has won major titles at the Pacific Coast Futurity and Derby, El Rancho Futurity and the Fort Klamath Ranch Festival. This was his first Western Nationals win.
