Butlin “Whisps” $5,000 Novice/Non-Pro

In the $5,000 Novice/Non-Pro finals of this year’s NCHA Western Nationals, Brian Butlin topped the leader board on his horse This Whisps A Cat after marking a 217 in the finals.

The Arizona cutter purchased the mare (WR This Cats Smart x Miss Whisp x Docs Okie Quixote) in May of last year. She was bred by Thomas Mertle, Windsor, Calif., and has earned just over $40,000 in the show pen. She was a finalist at the 2012 PCCHA Fall Classic/Challenge in the Limited Non-Pro, the 2012 El Rancho Cutting Classic in the $50,000 Amateur and the the 2012 NCHA Western Nationals Championships in the $15,000 Novice/Non-Pro with her previous owner, M K Maxeiner.

Butlin’s win in Reno places his earnings right at $80,000.
